The Tradition Begins...
In the spring of 2007, Coach Bigler and Coach Smith were approached by a number of students interested in starting a lacrosse club. Both coaches, having played lacrosse in college, began researching leagues in the area and decided to hold a meeting to gauge interest. 91 students showed up to that initial meeting, and Jacobs Lacrosse was born! That spring, practices were held to teach students the basics of the game, and even though no games would be on the schedule until 2008, more than 25 students came out every day to simply learn.
In 2008, with more than 40 players on two levels, Jacobs Lacrosse played its first games of existence, as members of the Northwest Suburban Lacrosse League (NWS). After losing the first two games, Jacobs went on to win 9 of the remaining 12 games to finish the season 9-5. The tradition was born...

The program expanded to over 60 players the next season, and played as members of the NWS, against league members and members of the Northern Illinois Lacrosse League (NILAX). This season saw the varsity team make it to the NWS championship game, a last minute 4-5 loss to the undefeated league champions, Prairie Ridge. This season also saw the JV team claim the league crown. The tradition was building...
2010 saw NWS and NILAX merge and operate under NILAX. The bigger league offered the program more opportunity to grow and flourish, and flourish it did, finishing 13-5 and taking second, losing to undefeated powerhouse Cary-Grove in the championship game.
2011 saw the program shine its brightest, going a combined 32-3-2 between the varsity and JV levels and setting records for varsity wins, goals scored, assists recorded, fewest goals allowed, fewest shots allowed, and face-offs won. The season culminated with both levels hoisting their respective championship trophies!
2012 did not disappoint. With more than 70 players between the two levels, the large rosters helped propel both squads into their championship games for the 2nd year in a row. The JV team had to settle for 2nd place, and its 5 losses were by a combined 5 goals. The varsity, on the other hand, set new program records for wins (18), fewest losses (0), goals scored (259), assists recorded (159), and face-offs won (246). The team's 14.39 goals per game ranked 45th in the nation out of more than 3,3oo teams. Two of our Golden Eagles set state records for their scoring prowess, with Alex Crescenti scoring 105 goals and Shane Kathe assisting 68 times, and the NILAX trophy stayed with the program for the 2nd year in a row!
2013 sees the program moving into the IHSLA after signing the IHSA Emerging Sport Agreement, and with 80 players, the program offers three levels of competition for the first time!
And so here we are. What started with a few kids and a couple adults in small conversations has become a program full of integrity, dedication, pride, and success. To all those who have been a part of the Jacobs Lacrosse family: The tradition continues...
